I learned from the desert
to grow without water
to turn the scorching heat of the summers,
the unsparing hot loo winds
and feel their cool aftertouch.
I learned to dig deep into the ground
to find whatever air to survive.
To disappear like the dead - every year
only to come out of the closet
when the sky is benevolent,
in the bright green dress
and laugh.
How I fooled you again spectators!
Or rather, how I wooed you again, friends!
My story is best known to me –
a long sadhna of being and becoming.
To flower once in a while
and sway when the wind blows.
Scattering my seeds,
making a garden out of my own nothingness.

Founder's Bio
Suruchi is a National Award-winning filmmaker from Rajasthan, India. Her documentary Meen Raag won the Silver Lotus at the 69th National Film Awards, while her docu-series Equals received Special Mention at the IDA Awards 2023. Her recent experimental film Gagan Gaman premiered at MAMI Mumbai Film Festival 2024. A graduate of National Institute of Design, Ahmedabad, she founded Studio Ainak in 2014 and Rewrite screenwriters' residency in 2022. Her work explores folk culture, feminine narratives, and sustainability through a visual language that bridges documentary and allegorical fiction. Based in Jaipur, she values creative autonomy and thrives on deep collaboration with artists, musicians, and communities. Her work is exhibited at festivals and platforms worldwide.
